Big Hat Ranch is located on Hwy. 131 midway between Vail and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Our beautiful spot in the mountains allows us to have the best of all worlds for raising alpacas. Cool early summers afford your best dams the summer vacation and breeding opportunity that they should have. Going to camp couldn’t be any better than this. Located on a mountain stream with plenty of pasture and clean air- you’ll wish you could stay too. We also have several isolation possibilities available if we have multiple incoming groups of females or males.

Our breeding philosophy is simple: diverse genetics, blue ribbons and color champs in our foundation herd as well as females that have produced color champs, and last but certainly not least, those beguiling eyes.

CAUTION!! Alpacas are habit forming!! Once you’ve seen the marketing efforts put forth in your behalf, experienced the great products associated with alpacas, worked with this divine fleece, and the animals themselves, you may find your current employment sorely lacking.

We offer support for those who buy from us and we continually strive to learn more about these animals we are lucky enough to own and care for. We are involved in all facets of the business from fiber arts to summer markets to showing. If you buy an animal from us we will provide board at a reduced rate til you can take your animal home. We also welcome people who we do business with to join us at the Minturn Market, a farmer’s market just outside of Vail Co.
